This week, students in groups 1-3 met for the first time. We have started reading from the Junior Great Books Series 2 set of stories. Throughout the unit, students will explore what it means to be brave. Students will read both fiction and nonfiction stories. We practiced pre-reading strategies and started reading the Chinese folktale The Jade Stone. To monitor our understanding, we are asking who and what passages are about. I encourage you to practice this "check for understanding" strategy at home while reading with your child.
